Dr. G.R.C. Reddy graduated from Osmania University with majors in mathematics, physics and chemistry. He obtained an M.Sc.(Technology) in Engineering Physics and Optical Information Processing from Faculty of Engineering and Technology, NIT(former REC) Warangal. He joined as faculty member in department of physics at REC Warangal (presently NIT Warangal) in the year 1979 and became professor in 1995 in the Department of Physics.

Dr. Reddy`s specialization is Photonics/Applied Optics. He was an investigator in a number of research projects sanctioned by CSIR, MHRD, DRDO etc. He published over 80 research papers in various National and International journals / Conference proceedings. He is a specialist in Optical Information Processing. His present interests include ‘Optics applications in Nano-Science and Technology’ and ‘Fiber Optic Sensors’.

He has guided a number of MSc. (Technology) students for their dissertation as well as some Ph.D. students.

He has attended several national and international conferences and delivered lectures in various universities in India and abroad.

He was instrumental in conducting many national and international conferences at NIT Warangal as well as at NIT Calicut and is widely travelled.

He was on the high level delegation of Heads of Technical Institutions led by Secretary, MHRD, Govt. of India in the year 2008 which visited a number of world famous Universities like Stanford Univ., Univ. of California, Berkley, etc. which boast a large number of Nobel Laureates on their faculty, to study the Technical education in their country.

He was Director of NIT Calicut from 2005 to 2010. During his tenure he started a number of post graduate as well as undergraduate programmes. During this period, the Ph.D. student strength alone rose to more than 250 from a handful when he took over. Research funding from external sources rose from a few lakhs to more than 12 crores by the time he demitted office. During his tenure he was able to attract quite a few world class researchers from abroad to join NIT Calicut.

The infrastructure tripled and several crores worth of modern equipment was added. In a nutshell Dr. Reddy made untiring efforts to turn NIT Calicut from a mere ordinary engineering college into an excellent teaching and research ‘National Institute’.

Dr. Reddy served on several National committees constituted by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India which include faculty restructure committee for NITs, pay anomalies committee, AIEEE exam reforms committee etc. In fact their recommendations resulted in change in the pattern of question paper as well as conducting of the AIEEE examination online.

Dr. Reddy took charge as Director, NIT Goa on 19/10/2011. He served NIT Goa distinguishing himself as its founder Director and in establishing sound traditions required for an academic institution to reach great heights. He took it as a great challenge to build this newly started NIT as an Institution of ‘National Importance’. He built the Institute from scratch.  He inspired the faculty as an academic leader which enabled the Institute to tread bright new academic and research paths.  It is heartening to note that within three years of its establishment, NIT Goa has been ranked 76th in the year 2016 (as per NIRF rank of MHRD) among the top Engineering Institutions in the country.  Prof. Reddy demitted office of Director, NIT Goa on 18.10.2016.

Prof. Reddy took over as Director (In-charge), NIT Warangal on 27.08.2016.

He invites all those academics willing to contribute to its growth to associate themselves with this Institution.
