The Department offers 4 Year B.Tech. programme in Chemical Engineering. The current intake of the course is 92. The intake to this programme is based on the All India Rank (AIR) obtained by the aspiring students, which is a combination of their 10+2 or other equivalent qualifying exam and score obtained in IIT Main exam, conducted by Joint Admission Board (JAB)- constituting NITs, other CFTIs, CBSE and others. Foreign nationals are also admitted to this programme through schemes such as DASA.
Semester system is followed for the B.Tech. programme, where there are two semesters per an academic year. First two semesters of the programme are dedicated for common courses for various engineering branches. Core subjects of the branch are introduced from third semester onwards. In addition to the core subjects, a wide range of electives are also offered in this programme, which provides an opportunity to explore the branch in a desired perspective. The course contents are updated every four years by Board of Studies, consisting of senior faculty, experts from other institutes, industry and Alumni. During the summer vacation the students usually take up internships in industries or academic institutes. In the third year of the study, an industrial tour is arranged for gaining an exposure to the industrial operations. A project on Chemical Plant design is taken up by the students during the final year of the course. The campus placements for the students begin during the final year of the study.
