The Department of Mathematics was established in 1959 and has always shared the vision of the institute in striving for excellence in teaching and research activities. Over the years, the department has evolved as one that provides excellent teaching and research in Applied Mathematical Sciences.

Mile Stones of the Department
1. The Department of Mathematics has been in existence since the inception of the College.
2. The department launched Ph.D. program.
Started TWO years M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics) course sponsored by UNESCO with an intake of 6 students. later raised to 13 students and now increased to 24.
Organized the prestigious 23rd Congress of Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ISTAM) during 26-29 December 1978. A national level congress with the participants from all over the country.
Prof P. V. Rao, USA was the visiting professor during 1981-82.
Expanded as the Department of Mathematics and Humanities.
Organized the prestigious 5th Congress of Andhra Pradesh Society for Mathematical Society (APSMS) during 29-30 October, 1993. APSMS is the brain child of Prof N.Ch.Pattabhi Ramacharyulu the then Professor of Mathematics, Regional Engineering College, Warangal.
Established a full-fledged Computation Laboratory to meet the requirements of the M.Sc. students, research scholars and the faculty.
Organized the prestigious 44th Congress of Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ISTAM) during 22 – 25 December 1999. A national level congress with the participants from across the country.
Organized MATH QUEST - 2K, A national level Mathematics competition as a part of World mathematics Year - 2000 celebrations during 24 - 25 November 2000.
Mathematics Alumni Meet during 17 - 18, August 2001.
Launched TWO years M.Sc. (Mathematics and Scientific Computing) course with a judicious combination of essential Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Computer courses.
Recognized as a center for Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) by the AICTE apart from IITs and IISc (only from NITs) for Research in MATHEMATICS to in service candidates.
Organized the prestigious 13th Congress of Andhra Pradesh Society for Mathematical Society (APSMS) during 10-12 December 2004.
Bifurcated as the Department of Mathematics.
Prof.J.Brestensky, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia was the visiting Professor during December 2010 to February 2011.
Organized a national conference on New Vistas in CFD in engineering during 27-29, January 2012.
Organized international conference on Computational Heat and Mass Transfer with 250 participants across the globe and the publication of proceedings in an Elsevier journal “Procedia Engineering” during 30 November- 2 December, 2015.
Entered into a Memorandum of understanding with Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Mumbai.
Organized a National Conference on Women in Higher Education: Perspectives and Challenges in Digital Era sponsored by TEQIP in collaboration with the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, NITW during 30-31, May 2016.
Prof. J. Brestensky, Dept. of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics (FMPHI), Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia offered a GIAN course sponsored by MHRD for 10 days on Hydrodynamic Stability and Dynamo Theory during 9 - 20 December 2016.
Organized a National Conference on Applied Nonlinear Dynamics in collaboration with Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Mumbai during 21 - 22, December, 2016.
Prof. Tony W. H. Sheu, National Taiwan University, Taiwan offered GIAN course sponsored by MHRD for 10 days on Computational Methods and Parallel Processing in Science and Technology during 20 - 30, December 2017.
Organized an International Conference on Numerical Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow with 120 participants across the globe and the publication of proceedings in an Springer popular book series “Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering” during 19 - 21, January 2018.
Organized a national conference on Mathematical Modeling in Science and Engineering during 27 - 28, March 2018.
Recognized as a National Resource Centre in Mathematics by MHRD, Govt. of Inida to conduct Online Refresher Courses for all Mathematics Faculty members (irrespective of their seniority and designation) of all Institutions in the Country.
Prof. Jitesh S. B. Gajjar. Department of Mathematics, University of Manchester, England, U.K. offered a GIAN course on Separation and Instabilities in High Speed Flows sponsored by MHRD for 10 days during 06 – 17 August, 2018.
